I am still on the case for tracking down a
UK handicap for the Fun, I have contacted the RYA and Island SC in the
hope they might be able to find something in their records.
Dementia is now into her 4th race of the season and is doing reasonably
well. Race 1 was an all comers race which is just one mass start for all
boats no matter what speed or size, this had a steady SW F4 breeze but
a very short course due to the evenings still only staying light till
around 8 pm, but was good fun all the same, we managed to clock up 5th
place.
Race 2 was the first of the handicap races for the "Large Cruisers"
which is where we rate. This was totally different an SW 3 dropped to
a SW2 meaning a painstaking creep against the tide with as much sail up
as possible and the crew well forward, this paid off for us and we managed
to secure 1st by 9 minutes on corrected time.( not helping the handicap
case).
Race 3 saw us sporting the selftacking jib and a reef in the main for
a long solent trek in the rain, still good fun just a bit soggy. We sneaked
in 1st by 30 seconds and secured the
silver wear for that race.
Race 4 saw us struggle in a N F6 not much sail up for this and still more
power than we could hold. After a long slog we limped in 6th our worst
result to date but hay there's always next Thursday.
apparently there are possibly 4 more funs in the uk we dont know the were
abouts off
